Futuristic sport for tanks!

Metal Drift is a futuristic multiplayer motorsport game. You play in two teams of up to 6 players, and the idea is to collect a metal ball with your hover tank, and take it to the opposition's goal.

There are 5 arenas to race around in your hover tank, which is equipped with a turret and weapons, as well as a boost button. The view is first person, and you have a radar at boost power bars in your hud. Controls are a mix of keyboard and mouse, and will be familiar to anyone who's played a first person shooter before. For newcomers, it might take a while to get to grips with, but it's simple enough.

The graphics are nice and clean, if a little generic looking. However, as soon as you start, driving the tank is really satisfying. The way it moves, the physics model and especially the sound effects make it genuinely pleasing. You can play online, or with computer bots.

The games are a bit hectic, and take some getting used to. Tanks aren't incredibly quick, and as you gain boost by destroying the opposition if you find yourself outside the action, it's a pain to get back in. The boost reward system means success makes you faster - great when you're good at it, less when you're not. Metal Drift is much better in multiplayer, as playing with computer bots feels a bit lifeless.

Metal Drift is certainly fun for a while, but it won't last unless you can play with friends online.
